Quebec set to attain 52,500 Immigrants by 2022

The new proposal has been introduced by the Quebec government on June 7 in association with the intake of Quebec Immigration target which could reach 52,500 by 2022.  This tender proposes an increase of 10,500 new applicants over this year’s maximum limit of 42,000 and attaining the immigration level that was mentioned prior to the election of the province’s new Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) government in October 2018.

This would translate to an increase of 10,500 newcomers to Quebec from this year’s maximum of 42,000 and mark an approximate return to the immigration level that was in place before the election of the province’s new Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) government in October 2018.

Talking of the time span between 2015 and 2018, Quebec immigrant target varied from 53084, 52388 and 51118  respectively. Also, in the previous year, the little temporary deduction in annual intake of immigrants was observed as a crucial part of election primes to upfront that newcomers are not giving input into the majority French-speaking province.  But, the recent proposal announced this Friday by the province’s Immigration Ministry (MIDI) mentioned that temporary cut off was required in order to give a face-lift to the province’s integration programs and services.

The other proposals summarized in this new document include:

1. Special privilege to foreign nationals having a degree from Quebec, already living in the province as temporary residents or meet the province’s labor market needs.
2. Favoring skilled workers having In-demand training or a validated job offer matching with short-term labor market needs in Quebec
3. Accelerating the entry of economic-class immigrants to meet Quebec’s labor needs on priority basis.
4. Support to the Quebec employers to hire temporary foreign workers by trimming down delays prior to the arrival and smoothening the progress of meeting the requirements of the workforce.
5. Endorse immigrants who are aware of the province’s democratic values and values should be protected in Quebec’s Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.
6. Access to Government-run French language training for immigrants who speak French to promote Francis.
7. Boosting the young permanent immigrants to answer on the factors like aging and declining population of the province.
