Quebec, the Canadian province is all set to issue its first invitations to Quebec Skilled Worker Program candidates who have submitted its Expression of Interest through the online Arrima portal. This online program, known as Arrima was introduced last year to attain Expression of Interest to the main program of Quebec and monitors the candidates.
An Expression of Interest is submitted by an immigration candidate to notify the Government of Quebec about their interest to live and work in the province and look forward for the consideration for a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ). As per the estimation, around 100,00o EOIs have been lodged since Arrima’s commencement.
This present EOI-based system replaced the previous program, first-come-first-serve approach, in order to accept the applications to the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP), which excluded the labor market needs in the province told by Quebec Government.
In the EOI system, applications create a profile in Arrima and are awarded a score based on attributes such as age, education, area of training, work experience, and French proficiency. Depending on their score or considering another factor like labor shortages in Quebec regions, candidates are invited to apply for a CSQ. Those who receive a CSQ can apply for permanent residence through the Federal Immigration Ministry of Canada medical and criminal acceptability.
Quebec’s Immigration Minister, Jolin-Barrette, in the recent conference, said the Arrima system is structured to choose applications that can meet the labor needs of Quebec that eventually lessen the processing time to six months. First invitations will be given to those candidates by the Government who:
a) Had applied for a Selection certificate under the QSWP and were a temporary resident of Quebec at the time of application, b) Have a validated job offer from a Quebec employer c) Had applied for a QSC in the QSWP and were in Quebec as of June 16, 2019.Immigration Department of Quebec also informed about a new feature, which is going to be launched in the Arrima portal by February 2020. With this feature, employers will have access to candidates who meet their specific needs and are able to lift the economy of the province. Employers will be easily able to reach the candidates with a job offer via the Arrima portal to begin the immigration process.
Also, Jolin- Barrette said that updates in the Arrima portal have been added as a Quebec’s Government commitment to address labor shortages in all the areas of Quebec. He further added that Immigration is the solution to meet the labor needs of all Quebec regions and the regional community, as well. Immigrants who want to settle in there should absolutely contribute to Quebec society.
